The Rangeley Lakes Area, with its spectacular landscape of lakes and mountains, straddles two major watersheds. Theoretically, two paddlers could part company in Rangeley only to come together again, after some strenuous work (including quite a lot of portaging), all the way down in Merrymeeting Bay, where the Androscoggin and the Kennebec join before flowing into the Gulf of Maine!

Since the early 1800’s, sportsmen have come by foot, buckboard, train, auto or plane to fish the Rangeley Lakes.  The area boasts over 110 lakes, ponds, rivers and streams teaming with landlocked salmon and brook trout. Those wishing to explore the rich sporting history of the region should visit the Rangeley Historical Society in downtown Rangeley, one of a number of local museums.

While outdoor recreation is Rangeley’s hallmark (fishing, hiking, swimming, skiing, snowmobiling), simply enjoying time with friends and family is an important part of the lakeside experience. Visitors are encouraged to shop downtown stores offering locally made goods and to participate in one of the fun community events offered throughout the year. (Our favorite is the Rangeley Logging Festival with its annual "Little Miss Woodchip" contest).
